Safe & Supportive Culture

What It Is
At DeKalb Central Schools, we believe students learn best when they feel safe, supported, and cared for. That’s why we provide intentional social-emotional supports and partner with community organizations to promote a healthy student mindset from kindergarten through high school.

Elementary Schools

  • Every elementary school has a full-time guidance counselor who works with students individually and teaches lessons in every classroom.
  • A tiered system of supports ensures all students have access to social-emotional learning, with additional research-based interventions available for those who need extra help.
  • Schools partner with community-based therapy providers to connect families with the right supports.
  • Sensory tools and supports to meet the needs of all learners.

Middle School & High School

  • Each school has full-time guidance counselors available for student support.
  • A tiered social-emotional support system includes research-based curriculum and interventions.
  • Strong community partnerships allow students to access therapy and mental health services, with several providers offering support during the school day.
  • Sensory tools and supports to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Each student takes a Gallup Strengths Assessment to figure out their unique Strengths and how they can use those strengths to be successful.

Why It Matters
Students thrive academically when their social, emotional, and behavioral needs are met. By providing both academic and behavioral supports, we ensure we are teaching and supporting the whole child so every student can reach their full potential.
