WATERLOO — The DeKalb High School show choirs will present their annual show choir invitational on Saturday.

This year’s DeKalb Invitational ranks as the largest show choir competition in Indiana. A total of 36 groups from three states will compete in four different divisions to decide grand championships in the middle school, women’s choir, varsity choir and championship choir division.

In a separate competition, 57 soloists will be competing for a grand championship.

The DeKalb Invitational is an Indiana State School Music Association-sanctioned state qualifying site. Indiana schools that compete at DeKalb can submit their scores to qualify for the state championship contest March 22.

Daytime awards and the drawings for the night show finalists will be held at 6 p.m. DeKalb’s three-time state champion women’s choir, Sound Sensation, will perform immediately preceding the awards at 5:30 p.m. in the main gymnasium.

For the first time, the DeKalb Invitational will feature two night shows. The championship division will bring back the top six choirs from the day to compete again in the gym at 7:30 p.m. The varsity division’s top three choirs will compete again in the auditorium starting at 7:45 p.m. DeKalb’s four-time state champion Classic Connection mixed choir will perform at 10:30 p.m. At 11 p.m., an awards ceremony will reveal the grand champions from both divisions.

Tickets for this event cost $8 for the daytime performances, $8 for the finals and $15 for an all-day pass. Tickets may be purchased online at event management and ticket sales website EventBrite.com by searching for DeKalb Invitational Spectator Tickets. Tickets also may be purchased at the door.

Major credit and debit cards will be accepted this year for ticket purchases.

DeKalb High School’s Classic Connection mixed choir will perform in exhibition Saturday at 10:30 p.m. in the finale of the DeKalb Invitational show choir contest.
