WATERLOO — The DeKalb High School Athletic Department will be hosting its 2nd Annual Golf Scramble on June 7 at Bridgewater Golf Club in Auburn.

Registration will take place from 7:45-8:45 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Social time, awards and dinner begins at approximately 2 p.m.

Last year, the event raised more than $10,000 for the athletic department, with 27 teams of four golfers participating. This year, Athletic Director Ron Kock hopes to see that number increase substantially.

“For a first year, we felt really good about that,” Kock said. “We had a lot of great support. We’re blessed with a lot of great fans and community support, and last year’s event is an example of the great support our athletics get from the community.”

The cost is $100 per golfer, and $400 per team. There will be cash prizes, as the first-place team will receive $600, the second-place team $400 and the third-place team $200.

Each participant will also receive DHS apparel and lunch, and a cart for golfing.

Entry is limited to 36 teams, so players/teams are encouraged to send in their forms as soon as possible. The entry fee can either be submitted with the form, or the day of the event.

Individuals can also send in $100 to participate in the golf outing, and be placed with a foursome.

“Don’t hesitate to enter as an individual,” Kock said.

A point of emphasis for Kock this year is sponsorships. A Gold Sponsor donation is $1,000, which covers a team entry, a banner sponsor and four Big Red tickets. A Silver Sponsor is $750 covers a team entry, banner sponsor and two Big Red tickets.

Gold sponsors last year included DeKalb Health, Metal Technologies and Steel Dynamics, Inc. Silver sponsors included Big Red Sports, Nucor and Drive Right Academy.

Kock said that a hole sponsor doesn’t necessarily have to be a business; individuals are encouraged to do so as well as part of a donation to the athletic department. A hole sponsorship is $100.

“If would be awesome if some of our fans, even if they join forces, could sponsor a hole,” Kock said. “Sponsorship doesn’t have to be limited to businesses. We would love to encourage our fans knowing that this is an event that’s going to help our athletes.”

There are also other sponsorship opportunities including a beverage cart ($500), putting contest ($250), closest to pin for males and females ($150) and longest drive for male and female ($150).

There will also be door prizes.

Individuals not able to make it to the scramble can also make donations of $100, $75, $50, $25 or $10.

Fifty percent of the registration fee, and all sponsorship money, are tax deductible. All checks are to be made out to the DeKalb Alumni Foundation.
