Lunch Charging Protocol

Please review the policy regarding lunch charging
for your student(s) grade level:

PreK-8: Students may "charge" up to three lunches, or -$7.80 before they are offered an alternative meal of a peanut butter sandwich, milk, fruit, and a vegetable bag. While the student is being allowed to charge his/her regular lunches, the district will attempt contact with the family by sending Alert Now phone calls and emails. These alerts will give the students name and the low and/or negative balance information.
9-12: Students are able to "charge" one lunch, or -$2.60 if they don't have funds available. All students have the option of paying cash for meals and are verbally told when lunch accounts are getting low well in advance. If a student is unable to use their account or pay cash for a meal, then they will be offered an alternative meal of a peanut butter sandwich, milk, fruit, and a vegetable bag. The district will attempt contact with the family by sending Alert Now phone calls and emails. These alerts will give the students name and the low and/or negative balance information. Student balances are also readily available via PowerSchool to both students and parents. Students will receive an email to their DeKalb Central school email when the balance of their account falls below$10.00.

Staff: Staff members of DeKalb Central Schools should strive to not have a negative account balance. In the case where it occurs, staff should not go over the procedure in place for students PreK-8.
