At DeKalb Central, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our Portrait of a Baron Graduate defines the qualities we strive to instill in every student. Through intentional experiences, our students develop the competencies of Adaptability, Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Empathy, Integrity, and Perseverance. These characteristics prepare our graduates not only for college, careers, and military service, but also to become compassionate leaders, engaged citizens, and lifelong learners.

It is an especially exciting time to be a Baron. During the 2026–2027 school year, we will proudly celebrate the 60th graduating class of DeKalb High School. This milestone provides an opportunity to honor the rich traditions and accomplishments of those who came before us while looking ahead with optimism toward the future we are building for today's students. As we celebrate six decades of Baron graduates, we remain focused on preparing the next generation to lead, serve, and make a positive impact on the world around them.

DeKalb Central Schools proudly serves families throughout DeKalb County and comprises Country Meadow Elementary School, James R. Watson Elementary School, McKenney-Harrison Elementary School, Waterloo Elementary School, DeKalb Middle School, DeKalb High School, and the DeKalb Virtual Academy, now entering its second year of serving students in grades 6 through 12. Together, our schools provide exceptional learning opportunities designed to meet the unique needs, interests, and aspirations of every student.

More than 200 certified teachers and over 500 dedicated faculty and staff members serve nearly 3,600 students each day. Their passion, expertise, and commitment create an environment where students are challenged academically, supported personally, and inspired to reach their fullest potential.

Our district is proud to serve the communities of Waterloo, Auburn, Ashley, Corunna, Jackson Township, and the surrounding areas of DeKalb County. Strong partnerships with our families, businesses, community organizations, and local leaders enrich the educational experience and provide opportunities that extend well beyond the classroom.

Across our district, we are making significant investments through major renovations, facility improvements, and exciting new construction projects that will benefit generations of students. These projects are transforming learning environments, expanding opportunities in academics, career and technical education, athletics, the performing arts, student activities, and school safety.
